Welcome to the KCSMA Parent Teacher Organization!
We believe that children are motivated to become lifelong learners when they are part of a thriving learning environment that includes active participation by their families, schools, and their community. Our PTO exists to provide support for the educational, social, and recreational needs of the students, staff, and administration in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of KCSMA.
PTO Election Meeting at 5:40pm on May 20th
We will be having a very quick meeting to elect PTO officers for next year. The meeting will be before the ASP Showcase, and we will be finished by 5:55pm to give parents time to make it to the dining room for the showcase. We still have a need for Co-Treasurers, but the following nominations have been made:
Co-President: Denise Babin & Greg Maloney
Co-Vice President: Tamara Beeler & Chelsey Kingsinger
Co-Secretary: Angela Funcke & Amanda Green
The ASP Showcase is at 6:00pm Friday, May 20th. For several weeks, students have practiced and perfected a new skill, and they are ready and excited to show you what they have learned. This showcase will display all of our clubs and their many talents.
This is not the same survey that was sent out by the PTO a few weeks ago.
Although we are at the end of the school year, most of us are already planning for the future and looking at our needs for next year. We are working to create a variety of new opportunities for you as parents to be involved, allowing you to share your hobbies and expertise with our students. We are asking that you please take a few minutes to complete a survey to help us understand your strengths and knowledge base. We also ask that you share the survey with other family members that may be interested to be part of our volunteer force. Thank you for your commitment to our students and your continued support. Take the survey here.
KCSMA STEM Team
We need rinsed 2 Liter bottles for field day. Please bring them in as soon as possible (give to Mr. Donnelly).
Please join us on Thursday, May 12th, for the monthly family dinner night at Stevi B’s, 3335 N. Cobb Parkway, Acworth, GA (just before Home Depot), from 4:30pm – 9:00pm.
It is all you can eat pizza, salad bar, and drinks. Adults are $8.99 and children are $5.81. 15% of each bill will be given back to the KCSMA PTO for future activities. Two tokens for the game room will be given to each child. Please let the cashier know which class your child is from as the classroom with the most participation will receive a free dessert pizza party.
The Mission Statement of KCSMA is to provide a safe, positive, learning environment that inspires strong character and challenges all students to aspire to their personal best. As a Room Parent, you will play an invaluable role in helping to achieve this goal.
Being a Room Parent is no small task. You will be expected to commit to the following:
•Attend Room Parent training in August and subsequent Room Parent meetings as needed.
•Meet with your teacher at the beginning of the year and throughout the year to establish needs and responsibilities. This will include completing a Teacher All About Me form, determining important class dates, and volunteer needs.
•Coordinate volunteers for recurring in-class activities (mystery readers, table helpers), one-time class activities (project activities, class parties and field trips) and at home activities for the class (cutting, sorting, laminating).
•Recruit volunteers for PTO lead activities such as BoxTop collections, Basket Auction and Fall Festival.
•Coordinate with other grade level teachers and room parents to complete a grade level service project, ie. School grounds clean up, writing letters to service men and women over the holidays, collecting items for senior citizens.
As you can tell, there are many fun and exciting things planned for the 2016-17 school year. Room Parents will be asked to Communicate, Organize, and Delegate. But most importantly, we want you to have fun; enjoy getting to know your teachers and fellow parents; and cherish watching all of our kids grow and succeed.
If you are interested in being a room parent, please email email@example.com stating your name, child’s name and child’s grade. Before the start of the school year, updates will be provided regarding training dates.
Let’s get ready for an amazing year!
Scholastic Buy One, Get One FREE Book Fair
We always participate in the All for Books program which provides books to our students, and the money we raise is matched by Scholastic to provide books to students in need. For this fair, we had a $1 NUT Pass on Friday, May 6th to raise money for All for Books. We will also be having a coin drive. All money raised will be used to provide book fair reward coupons for honor roll students and buy books for the 3rd grade novel studies. Our goal is $1,000.
Friday, May 6th – $1 NUT pass
Monday, May 9th – Send in your pennies
Tuesday, May 10th – Send in your silver (nickels, dimes, quarters)
The class that raises the most money with the NUT pass and coin drive combined will win a BEAN BAG chair for their classroom.
The class that raises the 2nd highest amount of money will win a SLINGBACK CHAIR for their classroom.
The class that raises the 3rd highest amount of money will win $50 Scholastic Dollars to purchase from the Scholastic catalog.
The PTO is looking for ways to improve and expand the level of communication and the services we can provide to our teachers and students. We need your help to accomplish this task.
Please take a few minutes to answer the following questions. Your feedback will help us in our quest to determine the best ways to communicate with you as well as increase parental participation in classroom/school activities and events. Survey entries can be anonymous. If you would like to discuss this survey with a PTO Officer, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please take a moment to fill out this survey by May 13, 2016.
We will report the findings at the May PTO meeting on the 20th.
Mrs. Frey has “called off” school for May 17th, since we met our $30,000 Fun Run goal to build a new playground. Students will still come to school that day, but it will be a day of fun!
We are in need of volunteers to lead the activities that the students will be participating in, like movie matinees, bingo, etc. The day will be broken up into two hour shifts for volunteers. If you are avaliable, please sign up here. Thank you!
