Welcome to the KCSMA Parent Teacher Organization!
We believe that children are motivated to become lifelong learners when they are part of a thriving learning environment that includes active participation by their families, schools, and their community. Our PTO exists to provide support for the educational, social, and recreational needs of the students, staff, and administration in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of KCSMA.
Calling all Room Parents and Reward Coordinators!
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year at KCSMA! Your role this year will be instrumental in making this an exceptional time for our kids. Some activities planned for this year include grade level service projects, a door decorating contest, and teacher rewards for collecting Box Tops.
Please plan to join us for the Room Parent and Rewards Coordinator Training:
5:30 – 6:15 pm
Note: If you are unable to attend the meeting but wish to be a room parent or rewards coordinator, please firstname.lastname@example.org. The training materials for either role will then be sent to you.
Calling all men who have an interest in making a difference in our children’s lives!
We are so grateful to have so many involved parents and grandparents at KCSMA. We see the effect it has on the students and love how their eyes light up and they stand taller when they are greeted by one of our volunteers.
In the mornings before school, our PTO Co-President Greg Maloney has been performing hallway duty. He greets the students, and already, Mrs. Frey has said she can see the difference in how the students react when they enter the school. Although students love their teachers and the staff, there is something special about being greeted by one of our enthusiastic volunteers.
Our FBI group (Fathers Being Involved) has taken a backseat to other PTO priorities, but we feel it is important to get it going again. We would like to start out by having any interested adult male* KCSMA family or friends spending time greeting the students each morning. All it will require is a few minutes each morning (any time you can spare between 7:00am and 7:45am) to say hello and give an encouraging nod or high five to students.
If you are interested, please let us know. We will have special FBI name badges made up in the next few days. You would just need to sign in at the office. Email email@example.com. if you are interesting in helping chair this committee, we would love to hear from you. More info can be found here.
*We recognize and appreciate the female volunteers in our school. There is compelling evidence, though, that having male role models have a direct influence on student success. We are looking to encourage our KCSMA men to take an active role.
ASP staff will be there to watch children, free of charge, if you need to bring yours.
Do you have children’s books that are no longer being read at your house? We would love to have them. Some of our classrooms need more books to fill out their classroom libraries.
If you would like to donate your used children’s books, please drop them off in the front office. We will accept books that are geared towards beginning readers through middle school age (for our advanced readers). Thank you!
Paper Container Design Challenge:
The new IKEA catalog had a great article about their efforts to find new ways to reuse paper to create marketable products. The teams have been researching different grades of paper and paper pulp and are finding innovative ways to turn paper into storage containers, toys, decorations, and furniture. Your challenge is to design a marketable item for IKEA using paper, preferably paper found in the recycle bin.
Your entry must include:
a diagram of your design, including measurements for the item in production
a prototype of the design
marketing for your product, such as a catalog page or advertisement describing its features
your name and teacher’s name on all pieces of your entry
2 winners will be selected for this design challenge.
