Welcome!

Welcome to the KCSMA Parent Teacher Organization!

We believe that children are motivated to become lifelong learners when they are part of a thriving learning environment that includes active participation by their families, schools, and their community.   Our PTO exists to provide support for the educational, social, and recreational needs of the students, staff, and administration in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of KCSMA.

In search of 2 pocket folders

The PTO will be assembling welcome packets, again, this year.  Before we purchase the supplies, we want to reach out to our families to see if you are able to donate 2 pocket folders in any color.  We are not asking you to purchase folders.  Does your employer have folders to donate?  Have you stocked up at a penny sale and have an overabundance?  If so, we will gladly take them.  Please contact the PTO at kcsmapto@gmail.com if you have folders to donate.

Our school pets need summer homes

Mr. Donnelly is looking for families to host his classroom pets over the summer.   There is a tortoise, a turtle, and a bearded dragon.  Going on vacation?  No problem!  They can be left for up to a week, with proper provisions.  Warning:  the last two families who hosted Stubby, the bearded dragon, ended up adopting bearded dragons of their own.  🙂

If you are interested, please contact Mr. Donnelly at mdonnelly@kcsma.net.  Thank you!

Need participants for Reading Bowl 2017-18 (Rising 4th and 5th graders)

KCSMA is looking for participants for the 2017-18 Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Team.

What is Reading Bowl?  “The Helen Ruffing Reading Bowl was started by educator, Helen Ruffin, as a means to encourage her students to read. Her method caught on and the excitement spread little by little all across the state.

Now, hundreds of schools all over Georgia enjoy matching wits on some of the best books of the year. Teams are formed and they read and practice recalling facts about the books.  Then those teams come together and compete against each other to see who knows the most.  While there can only be a few schools declared winners in the bowl, all students who compete feel the pride and spirit of the games.” -from Cobb County Helen Ruffin

The KCSMA Reading Bowl Team will be meeting during the summer to start practicing for next year’s competition.  Rising 4th and 5th graders are eligible to join, but there is a maximum number of participants.  Anyone interested in next year’s Reading Bowl Team should check out the 4th-5th grade reading list, here.

We will be starting with  the following titles (see link above for full details):

  1.  All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook
  2. Drowned City:  Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans
  3. Projekt 1065
  4. Pax
  5. House Arrest

If you are interested or would like more information, please contact coaches Kimberly Smith at kimterps@gmail.com, 404.386.2742 or Diana Godfrey at dgodfrey@kcsma.net.

Help needed on Saturday or Sunday, installing bricks

The PTO sold personalized bricks last year, and the installation of the bricks has fallen to the wayside.  We are looking for a few people to help install the bricks this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday, morning or afternoon.  Please contact Tamara Beeler at tbeeler@kcsma.net, if you are available to help, and let her know which day and time works best for you.  The day/time will be determined on majority available.  Thanks!
